As I mentioned above I had no idea how to cook a pot roast, what to do with it, how to season it, how long it takes to cook etc. So my brain instantly began to work. It's a roast, so try a dry rub, cut up some garlic, carrots, onions, potatoes, a little wine reduction, throw it in the crock pot and there it is. Right? WRONG!!!! I go into the fridge there's no garlic, no onion, no red wine, BUT there are some potatoes. Sooooo I grab some spices, I grab the potatoes and take out the crock pot and start to work. I take my spices and throw them all together mix them all up, wash my roast and pat it dry.
Crock Pot, spices, and mixed rub |
I take my roast and start rubbing it with the spices. For the spices I used a mixture of EVERYTHING, Season Salt, Black Pepper, Minced Garlic, Minced Onion, Mrs. Dash, Italian Seasoning, Garlic Flavored Breadcrumbs(Yes breadcrumbs, the flavor is amazing) and some other stuff I can't remember.
Potatoes and Roast rubbed and ready to be seared |
After I rubbed the roast I decided to put the rub on the potatoes. It was only fitting right? Then I seared the roast in a hot pan with some EVOO (extra virgin olive oil for the non-chefs in the house), I seared it on both sides and then placed it into the crock pot. After searing the pot roast I decided to sear the potatoes as well and then toss them into the crock pot. I put a little bit of beef broth, water, and moscato (yes moscato..I couldn't find the red wine lol) into the pot everything went, turned the crock pot on high and walked away for about an hour. After my hour was up I turned down the crock pot to low and let it cook for hours and hours and hours.
Seared Roast, and Potatoes and into the crock pot they go |
Once my roommate was home, I turned the crock pot off and put on some ohhh weeee gooey yummy Jasmine rice (my favorite rice) and dinner was served.
I received four thumbs up from the two people that ate my meal. The pot roast was so incredibly tender, it just fell apart. It was very flavorful and tasted so good, according to my roommate and her son!! After I grabbed me a bowl and went to work....I totally have to agree

Do you have a favorite meal to cook or eat? Share please!!
Great job!!! I've cooked many a pot roast in my crock pot. The only thing is I don't sear my roast, I just put it in with potatoes & carrots. I use HY's seasoning salt, Garlic plus and some Montreal steak spice. I tell you girl, my roast is done within 4 hours. Mind you I have a big crock pot :)
ReplyDeleteMy crock pot is my friend :) If you look on pinterest, you can get a wealth of recipes for your crock pot.
I love one pot dishes (easier to clean too!!). My favorite dish to make is my butter chicken with yes, my dear....Jasmine rice :) I cheat and use a jar sauce, but it is soooo tasty. I also make Honey Garlic meatballs (over Jasmine rice too). Very tasty and easy to make.
Thanks hun..Jasmine rice is sooooo good I love that stuff. It smells divine too lol. I like cooking in the crock pot too. I don't do it as often as I would like to but I like using it. I think my next meal in the crock pot is chili. Butter chicken sounds yummy :)
DeleteLook delicious, I love to season season season too! And Moscato is my favorite wine, I bet it added a nice sweetness to the tender meat. I always sear my roasts before doing the crock pot, it seals all the flavors into the meat before cooking. Looks great!
ReplyDeleteSeason is the BEST!! haha It did give the meat a nice little sweetness to it. I didnt use a lot just about a 1/4 cup actually probably less than that. I totally love searing my beat before cooking it. I do that sometimes when I put things in the oven too. It totally seals the flavors and juices. Thanks for compliment Mrs. Chef Mama Harris :D
DeleteI love that everyone is posting crock pot recipes! Seriously, crock pot inspiration! Love jasmine rice too. Need to put this on my list of things to cook :) yum!
ReplyDeleteYay thanks...Jasmine rice is amazing...Ugh I want some now lol

DeleteIt's a running joke in my family about what a bad cook I am (though I bake very well). My most recent failure was last week. I have an amazing chipotle chicken recipe that I kept bragging about to my husband. I made it for him for the first time...ended up putting a TABLESPOON chile powder in instead of the teaspoon it called for. Needless to say we had to throw it out, it was so hot, and he doesn't believe me when I say how good the recipe actually is :/
ReplyDeleteOUCH!! OMG awww I feel so bad for you :( you should attempt it again and not tell hubby you're making it and if it doesn't turn out right, go grab a pizza lol
DeleteHa, never had pot roast and you Aced it! I love me some pot roast, but it has to be homemade. I don't like the restaurants way of making it. When I say homemade, I don't mean by me - I don't cook. I totally mean my husband LOL!
ReplyDeleteAh pot roast. A winter favorite of mine for it's tummy filling, warming qualities. I'm a traditionalist and cook mine on the stove using sofrito, salt, pepper and cooking wine. Now I have a hankering to make one soon.
ReplyDeleteOmg, I can't look at all this good food! But I love to make Seafood Gumbo and Red Beans & Rice.
