Hey good people....I hope you all had a very MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!! and since today is New Years Eve, I hope you all have a fun and safe day today!

So it's been a few weeks and for 2013 I will post more like I used to. It is a personal goal of mine to at least get you new material to read once a week maybe even twice. No need to wait to the new year to start I am starting now :) so here goes...lets chat about my love life....or the lack there of

Lately, I have been thinking a lot about what could be in store for me in 2013. I came into 2012 saying this would be my year, great things would happen for me, I would finally get that husband, and finally get that career I wanted, and so on and so forth and none of that really happened. I am still single, I am not really working in the field I would love to, ohh and did I mention I was still single.....that can kind of be disheartening to a woman. Why am I still single? I live in an area that is ridiculously over populated, with all different walks of life, huge military town with people from all over the world, I attend a decent size church with a diverse mix, I get out, I do things, I sit in Starbucks, I read books, I shop at the malls, I go out to eat, and yet still NOTHING!!

My singleness is not something I think about often so don't get it twisted. My life does not revolve around getting married or having a boo by my side. I live my life, I have fun, I do things, however with that said it is something that I find myself thinking about a lot more often this past month. Someone told me about a month ago about seeing me with a baby girl. This person described the man she saw, tall, light skinned, talked proper, was into music and some other things this person said too. I said hmmm sounds pretty good, then this person began to tell me that I already knew this particular man. I was baffled because I didn't know anyone of this description, so then I brushed it off and said that person was crazy. Shortly, after I dismissed her wacky prophetic vision, weird premonition, her physic ability or whatever it is you want to call it. I IMMEDIATELY thought of the guy that is in my "But you say he's just a friend" post. *Scooby Doo noise* HOLD DA PHONE....Could this be true? Is this the guy I am meant to be with? Nahhh couldn't be...he would never be interested in me...a guy like that? I push it aside and keep going about my business. But I find myself thinking about it more, I find myself thinking about him more, even having dreams....Seriously? What is really going on? Is my mind playing tricks on me? During all of this I just recently had 2 friends that I have known for 20 plus years contacting me out of the blue....male friends mind you that are professing their love for me, missing me etc. and one that I have known for a few years blowing my phone up, but then again none that I am interested in, in that manner. Why do the ones that you like don't like you but the ones you're just friends with like you as more than a friend?

In the midst of all of this....I have also been thinking about the last 5 years of my life, living in so-cal. I just celebrated my 5th anniversary of living here. Although, I absolutely love this place and want to stay here for as long as God allows, I have been tossing around the idea of..what if my husband isn't here, what if I am supposed to move? How would I know if I am supposed to move, and where would I even move to? What if I was only supposed to be here for a short time and I am supposed to travel on to the next spot and that is where I will meet my Knight in Shiny Armani? (DISCLAIMER: No I am not a gold-digger looking for some rich guy in an Armani suit lol it is just a funny on the Knight and Shining Armor that a friend of mine came up with that was cute and just stuck, also please do not think I would move for the sole purpose to find a husband these are just thoughts that are swirling around my head that I am writing out.)

Maybe this is my time of solitude, maybe I am not meant to have anyone right now, or ever. I am kinda confused on this thing and I have never been before. You know I hear stories from my girlfriends and others that say "I wasn't even looking for a man, or I didn't even want to be in a relationship, or my personal favorite, I had sworn off men completely and they all end with...and he just showed up and he was the one" CAPITAL U.G.H....Seriously, is it just that easy....okay so here is my declaration, I am NOT looking for a man, I do not want a relationship, and I am swearing off men............waiting....okay I guess it's not that easy

SS <3

Question of the day: If you are married or have a boo how were you when you met him or her? Were you looking, were you hoping, or did you completely swear off the opposite sex? Tell me your stories.....

Do you think Songstress should move....why or why not?

REALLY feelin' this song!!!!!

We all know it's that time of year where we are frantically trying to get last minute gifts, if you live where it snows some of you are hoping you have a white one of these, or some of you maybe already experiencing it, some of you may just now be putting up a tree, decorating it with lights and other colorful accessories, if you were an early bird you did that the day after Thanksgiving. Some of you have the hot chocolate brewing, the carols playing, and the seasonal movies going...Yep, you guessed it, that time of year is Christmas. As one writer put it "It's the most wonderful time of the year".

Unfortunately, this is not the most wonderful time of the year for some families and will never ever be again. It is the time of year where families will remember losing their loved ones, their precious little angels. No Christmas holiday will ever be the same, because they won't hear the pitter patter of their children's feet running down the stairs on Christmas morning, they won't ever hear their child laugh again, or they will never hear them speak again, they'll never get to finish the height chart on the kitchen wall, they'll never get to make chocolate chip cookies to leave out for Santa, they won't be running to mom and dad to for hugs and kisses, dad can't teach his son how to play basketball and football, mom can't do her hair and show her how to be a lady. It's a sad time and unless you have been living under a rock the past few days you should all know I am referring to the horrific massacre that happened in Connecticut where 26 people were killed including 20 children and a teacher.

When I caught wind of this tragedy I am shame to say I read it on Yahoo "20 slained in massacre in Connecticut" and brushed it off thinking to myself, "another crazy person going on a killin spree, God help the families and the person that did this" and kept on moving. I still will admit I do not know a lot about the story only because it is something that is difficult for me to fathom. It is a tragedy, it's scary to imagine someone would go around killing innocent people let alone small, harmless, defensless children. My heart breaks, my heart hurts for those innocent people. I read the story of a courageous teacher that laid her life down to cover the children in hopes of saving their lives. How amazing is this woman? How many of us would have done the same? Honestly?

So I write this post to say while you are loving on your children today, hugging them tight. While you are talking to your loved ones, seeing them over the holiday season, remember these families, take time to pray for them, or keep them in your thoughts. Find out how you can give to those family, donate or donate in your local area to those that are not spending the holidays with family, or friends. Volunteer at your local soup kitchen, take your family to go feed the homeless on the streets. Give back as much as you can because when you can't take it with you, and you can't take your friends and family with you either. Spend as much time with them as you can, teach your kids any and everything you can, hug them more than you have in the past, kiss them daily, play with them always because you never know when the one you love would be ripped from your heart and your life. Speaking from a place of hurt, and a mom who has lost her child I understand what these families are feeling and my heart breaks for them. Understanding from that deep place how life will never be the same.....

Words of wisdom: Never take anyone you love for granted and love unconditionally as much as you can.

Wishing you and your family a beautiful Christmas and a wonderful New Year!!

 Hola great people!
I know I know I know. I am slacking big time. I can't even get the "Sunday" Social out on Sunday lol.. Geez, well I really wanted to do this post so here it goes. Just pretend you're reading it on Sunday. :)
1. What is the wallpaper on your cell phone?
My is locked so when you first push the button to turn it on you'll see two dolphins jumping out of the water getting ready to dive back into the water. Something resembling this:
I absolutely LOVE dolphins so that's why I have that. Then when you get to my phones home screen I have a photo of two hearts, that have angel wings behind them and a banner going across that says "TRUST"
2. What do you keep beside your bed?
I have a little table with my heater, my laptop, desk lamp, cell phone when not in use, lotion, deodorant, and my word search book and a pen .
3. What is your least favorite chore?
I think I would have to say dishes, or cleaning the bathroom. They run neck and neck. I despise doing the dishes and cleaning the bathroom.
4. If you could eliminate one thing from your daily routine, what would it be?
The person before me posted getting out of bed. I would have to agree LOL but my answer would be, and up until three days ago I probably wouldn't have been saying this but if I could eliminate doing my hair in the morning I would. I hate having to get up earlier than I want to just so I can make sure my hair is done and presentable. When I had my hair braided and twisted I didn't have to really worry about it because it was already done for me....oh the joys of being a chick lol
5. What do you do to vent anger?
Usually I cry, when I am REALLY upset the only thing I can do is cry. I don't cuss, if I need to scream I'll do that to, and then vent to a friend.
6. What is your favorite holiday of the year and why?
Does my birthday count? LOL okay in all seriousness I LOVE Thanksgiving, I would have to say that is my all time favorite holiday. I love to cook, I love to share what I have cooked with people that I love and care about. I love inviting people over and giving back, especially to those that are like me and don't have family here. it's an absolutely GREAT holiday.

Your turn!

WOW!!!!! Can you believe it has been more than a month since my last post???? Have you guys missed me?? I can definitely say I have missed you. So much has happened during my time away, some good some okay but nothing bad so thats a plus. I figured since I am at home, sick in bed I kick things off again with a Sunday Social. More exciting post to come soon, but for now here goes....

1. Favorite Holiday Movies/TV Specials?
I love the movie "This Christmas" I actually like a lot of different Christmas movies, my fav as a kid was Miracle on 34th street. My mom and I used to watch it every year. But for now we'll stick with "This Christmas"

2. Do you do any volunteering during the holidays if so what? If not what would you do?
I actually volunteer all year long through my church, so I don't usually do anything differently outside of that, however I have in the past volunteered feeding the homeless at the soup kitchen, which is a very humbling and rewarding experience.
3. Favorite toy received as a child for the holidays?
I remember so many toys I received as a child, my Teddy Ruxpin

My skip it toy...AWESOME

Those were the good day!! I have so many others too....
4. What was your must have item in high school for the holidays?
Cell phone and a car of course!
5. Item you begged for the most and never got?
Hmmm I can't really think of anything, if I wanted it I would ask for it and if I didn't get it right away I would eventually end up getting it :)
6. What do you do on Christmas Eve?
As a kid I would go to bed early and get up early, as a teenager and now an adult I would stay up, wrap gifts with my mom when she was alive, and we would stay up and talk all night and watch movies. Now, I don't really do anything, maybe when I have a family of my own I will start a new tradition.
That's it for today's Sunday Social. I am glad to be back and hope to share things with you again on a more regular consistent basis. Love and miss you guys so much and thank you for those that reached out to make sure I was okay, thank you for your support.

Most people post their outfit of the day photo but since I don't have one of those I give you my hair for the day....

I debuted my natural hair a few weeks ago right before my birthday and the next day I went and got my hair done. I have been rocking what's known as Kinky Twist and this is what I looked like a week ago Saturday celebrating my birthday by dancing and hanging with out great friends

I love my kinky twist a lot. I wear them or braids because it keeps my hair protected, keeps me from doing all kind of craziness to it as well. However, when I got these twists done, I changed the brand of hair that I used the last time I got them done and because of that the twist I started noticing my twist were unraveling and sliding out of my hair. I was not pleased so I went to my hair stylist and she tightened some of them up. Later (last week) I noticed some were even looser and still sliding out. So instead of complaining I decided to redo some of them myself. I still wasn't satisfied, my hair ended up looking like it was a 3 month hairstyle when it was barely a week old. So I decided to contact my hair stylist again and told her what was happening and she told me she would redo my entire head free of charge. YAY!!!! It's great to find honest people with great integrity. I have gone to her a few times and I recommend her to people a lot. She said it's good business, and that I paid my good money and I should get what I want and be happy and satisfied. Couldn't agree with her more :) so today I am going to go get my hair re-twisted.

Meanwhile, I took the other twist out and decided to rock my natural hair for the day. And here it is my hair of the day :)

Have you ever experienced good Customer Service?? Share.....

Have a fabulous Tuesday Beauties....You deserve it

P.S. Thank you to all my new followers and subscribers I appreciate you all more than you know :)

Dear God, can you uhh fix the weather where it isn't changing day by day. The whole one minute its a 100 degrees to the next minute its 60 is not good for my health. Thank you!!

Dear Dating Life, you can go ahead and pick up at ANYTIME SERIOUSLY. Thanks

Dear Mexican taco shop, last weekend when I came from celebrating my birthday and doing a lot of dancing, I was really hungry and I stopped by your facility, I ordered 3 rolled tacos with cheese and sour cream ONLY and a carne asada taco again with cheese and sour cream ONLY, I even spoke it in Spanish for you to make sure you understood what I wanted..Queso y crema SOLO. Dear Laptop, I still need you to hang in there. Just a few more weeks and you can kick the dust..Thanks

So today marks the first day of November, that means Day Lights Savings Time, Officially Fall, leaves are falling off the trees, some places are starting to get that white fluffy stuff that's foreign to us Southern Cali people, also known to the rest of the world as SNOW, my favorite holiday of the whole year, BLACK FRIDAY!! lol oh and my other favorite holiday THANKSGIVING!!!!!!!!

I am in love with this holiday, thanksgiving to me means family, friends and other loved ones coming together, enjoying each others company, around delicious food and football. For me this holiday meant home cooked meals from my grandmother and my mom, it meant I got to see most of my family gathered around the table, laughing, joking, hugging, crying, and having a grand time together. It also meant no school and the next day after stuffing myself with Turkey I got to go shopping with my family for black Friday.  So much mom and I used to go to one of our local stores, and get matching pajamas, we would get different colors but they would match nonetheless. We would take them home along with everything else we purchased and wrap them and place them under the Christmas tree, come Christmas morning we would unwrap them and wear them that night, as we stayed up laughing, talking about our hopes and dreams and other fun things....God I miss those times.

I tried to keep the tradition alive by going shopping on black Friday but I have been unsuccessful, so this year I solemnly swear that I will be attending Black Friday regardless if I anyone comes with me or not. I will do this.....

Anyways Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, I get to get down and dirty with my cooking skills, I get to invite people over while they do their house hopping and they get to taste my food and take some home. This has definitely been a tradition since I lost my mom and didn't really have a place to go to for Thanksgiving or wanted to go to since I didn't have my family around. As you all know I LOVE TO COOK!!!! It is relaxing to me and it's my way to "give back" if I can make a meal for a friend or loved one and they enjoy it my heart is overjoyed. It means the world to me. Here's a couple of pics of last years 2011 before and after Turkey YUM....

Those are vegetables around the turkey and fresh Rosemary, Thyme, and Sage inside the turkey along with my yummy concoction that keeps it nice moist and juicy
Fully cooked delicious, juicy turkey, in all its juices..Turkey this year will look very similar :)

That's a small preview of what's to come :) I am so excited and I cannot wait. Are you guys getting as hungry as I am??

What's your favorite part about the month of November?? Please share....

SS <3
P.S. I am going to be doing a "What I'm thankful for" post everyday this month via FB and probably Twitter please consider joining me in this. We should ALWAYS be thankful & grateful for something everyday but this is the month of thankfulness & gratefulness so lets display it :)

I'm really feeling this song right now..the lyrics are so on point. Hope you enjoy....

Lately I have been thinking a lot about people that have separated or broken up with their significant other. I am not sure what sparked this but I was intrigued. It seems to me that when a break up happens the man tends to get over it WAY faster than the woman. Do you agree?? Lets take a journey through my thoughts and some convos with some of my male friends and followers......

When you look at celebrities who break up, separate or get divorced it's almost inevitable that the man in that relationship has moved on to the next new hottie and appears to be so happy and in love. Take Jessie James for example, Sandra Bullocks' ex husband, he was quickly engaged to someone else weeks maybe even a couple of months after they separated. I'm not saying its all men that do this but it does seem a little more prominent in the male society to quickly move on.

So I took this question to some of my male friends and followers.

Do you think men get over a breakup quicker than women? The answers were kinda split most of the males responded as it being difficult to answer that question because it depends on the male, and the breakup. All of the males did say that it is not that men get over it quicker it's that they use different coping mechanisms to get through it. However, one of my male friends stated that it could also be how a man is raised. It's a males "birthright" to be hard and not show any emotion. If hes been with someone for 10 years and breaks up with them or divorces them he is wired to show no emotion. He needs to suck it up and keep it moving. On to the next one.....

So if a man is able to move forward so quickly does that mean he never loved or cared for the woman? They all said no that does not mean that at all. Some of them even went so far as to say that most men are afraid to be alone so they move on so quickly so that they won't have to be alone. Another man said they will try to occupy themselves long enough to where the breakup doesn't even matter to them anymore. That man also said a lot of men do the "fake it to you make it" statement, it appears that they don't care or don't or didn't love that person but in actual reality they are hurt as well. I found that answer shocking. Shocking because a man actually admitted that....

How does a man heal from a relationship before moving on to the next one? Most of the guys answered this by saying everyone is different and their healing takes place differently. The general consensus was anywhere from 3 months and even one guy said a year. My jaw almost hit the floor. He said it depends on how long you were with that person and how much was invested in the relationship. Speaking of the length of the relationship one guy brought up that infamous rule. The length it takes to heal is half the time you were with that person, so if you were together for 10 years it should take you 5 to heal from the breakup. How do you guys feel about that? Is there any truth to that statement....

As for me I do find some truth in that last statement. When I went through my breakup/divorce I kept saying after year one I was healed but I wasn't and honestly four years later I can definitely say that NOW I am healed. And we were together for eight years. I never paid any attention to that rule before then. It holds some merit to me....

So readers chime in..what do you think about men moving on after a break up faster then women. Do you think it's true? Have you experienced this? Share your thoughts!!

Hello beautiful people,

I know it's been a little while since I have posted so here's a quick mini update.

I celebrated my birthday last Thursday (which explains why there was no rant and rave Thursday) I did a lot of shopping and partying, probably more than I should have (shopping I mean lol) I was really busy all last week and this week I am sick :( I have a few post though that I want to get out so your eyes will be busy reading and your fingers will be busy commenting I hope :)

So Halloween is tomorrow and I know most of you are putting last minute touches on decorating your home, or the kids costumes or getting your costumes together and buying up candy to pass out to the trick or treaters etc. I want to hear all about what you do for Halloween too and I want to see pics of the kiddos dressed up :)

I personally am not into the Halloween scene. I do not dress up, I do not go out, I don't borrow friends kids to go trick or treating lol. To me it is just another day. So I was checking out a friends blog (check her out by the way she has fabulous stuff to share) and I wanted to share with my readers some fun videos. I usually see this for Christmas time but apparently people do it for Halloween as well, so since I don't have any personal Halloween things to share with you, please enjoy these fabulous videos....

What do you like to do for Halloween or what is your favorite thing about Halloween?? Please share

Have a safe, and happy Halloween!!!!

Good evening beautiful people. I am writing this much awaited and very anticipated post. I am EXTREMELY nervous about this but what better time then the present. So strap in and lets go for a ride through my hair journey....

Alright so I am a mixed female and for as long as I can remember I used to wear my natural hair. When I was a young girl, I rocked the pig tails, and the cornrows. When Jheri curls were out yes I rocked that too. Then I went to relaxers and for those that do not know what a relaxer is, it is the opposite of a perm for Caucasian women. A perm for them is to curl their hair and a relaxer for us is to straighten our hair. I used to get my hair relaxed every 4-6 weeks with touch ups in between time. I did this for years but in the summer I would rock braids. I also wished I had long luxurious hair when I was younger. I remember when I was a little girl I would throw a towel on my head and a headband to keep it in place and swing my "hair" around. I was never the one to appreciate or love MY hair. In fact I hated it, I hated people seeing the real me. If it was time to get my hair done I would take whatever I had in at the time down, wash it and go the next day to get it redone. To this day I am still that way, however I have had a breaking point. Today I am revealing ME and all my naturalness. Usually the only people that see my hair is myself and whomever is doing it at the time. I continuously get comments about how my hair is so long, so thick so beautiful etc etc but I have yet to believe it. My head was filled with your hair is so nappy and so ugly by my peers when I was younger, I don't see how it's any different now.....but in saying that I am about to embark on a new journey and a new year since my birthday is coming up in two days this is my "coming out" party LOL

Lately, I have realized that however I am in this moment I am beautiful, I was beautifully, fearfully and wonderfully made and I need to embrace that. So this is me embracing it. I decided to show my hair in its many states. My real natural, grown from my head state LOL. I have done the weaves, the braids, the twist, and everything in between. Although I am showing this I would like to say this is a HUGE deal for me. I did end up getting my hair done today in a twist style but regardless of me doing that I feel accomplished that I am showing you all the real ME....

For the last SEVERAL years my hair has looked like this
Small Micro Braids

And I even change up the color

I wore this style for years so just recently about 3-4 months ago I decided to change it up. Now I used to wear whats called "Kinky Twist" all the time back in Michigan but since I have lived in Cali I have yet to get them done and one day I decided to do something different and this is what I just took out and had replaced, except I replaced it with a different color same style
My kinky twist

So after taking these twist out, I washed my hair thoroughly and conditioned it, this is what my hair looks like curly......brace ya selves lol
There it is..nice tight coily curls. It is not nappy I can rake my fingers through it just fine and a comb too lol

All blown out!! Who knew there was that much hair from looking at those tight coils

So from there I decided to flat iron it....first time putting heat like that in my head in well over a few years. Sometimes I don't even blow dry I just comb out and let it air dry.

Almost done

Final product!! Unfortunately I couldn't take a pic of the back because I'm not that talented lol and I pulled it over toward one side because I was feeling myself I thought I was CUTE haha

So during this process it was fun, yet exhausting. It was freeing and liberating. It was refreshing to know, my hair is apart of me. Its coily texture is cute to some, ugly to others but who cares? Because I am not my hair, I am not your expectations either....

SS <3

Thanks for reading...comments, shares, and subscribers are ALWAYS welcomed.

India Arie I am not my hair

P.S. While getting my hair done today my beautician found....

So let me just say..finding this two days before you are turning another year OLDER is NOT okay lol. I'm old.....

P.S.S. If you look closely you can see the new color that was twisted into my hair. Pics of that coming soon.

This is my first participation in a Sunday Social so here goes nothing. Thanks to Ashley & Neely for starting this....

This Weeks Questions:

1. What do you value most in life? I value my friendships, and my family. Friendship and family are VERY important to me.

2. What do you think is the greatest invention in your lifetime and why? The greatest invention....I would have to say DVR, the fact that I don't have to listen to those lame painful commercials and I can watch an hour show in about 45 minutes or so...AHHH-MAZING :)

3. What do you think is the secret to a good life? Being true to yourself, always striving to achieve your goals no matter how hard or what naysayers may say. Do you and don't let anyone stop you.

 4. What would you most like to be remembered for when you’re gone? I'm not actually sure. I think I want to be remembered in a positive light, the one that used to smile all the time and was so positive and happy.

  5. What accomplishment in your life are you most proud of? To date being healed from going through a terrible divorce, graduating from school!!!! I still want to go back and complete more but to be able to finally have finished something is a definite accomplishment. Lastly, finally getting into the studio and laying down my vocals on a song :)

 6. If a movie was made about your life, who would you want to play you? This is a hard one but I the first person that came to mind was Queen Latifah. I love her as an actress and maybe even Jill Scott. I love her as an actress too....
